1869 - Grade II listed public house

Victorian pub built at about the same time as the Holborn viaduct, the iron road bridge that crosses the valley of the old Fleet river.

An original gin-palace, the Viaduct Tavern still has a gin booth where customers would buy tokens to pay for their drinks, so avoiding the need to trust the staff with money.

There was once an opium smoking room upstairs, while downstairs there are said to be the remains of the cells from a debtors prison which occupied the site before the pub.
