1520 -
Formerly known as The Pelican and later as the Devil’s Tavern, this is the site of London's oldest riverside pub, dating from about 1520.
The current (Victorian) name, The Prospect of Whitby was taken from a cargo boat that would be moored next to the pub after trips down the coast carrying coal from Newcastle to London.
