Waterstones
book store on Piccadilly |
The largest bookstore in Europe. Six floors with eight and a half miles of shelving and 150,000 titles in stock. This was formerly the home of Simpsons department store, and the art-deco building was the first to feature the curious curved glass windows at street level, the shape of which can eliminate reflections to allow the best display of the merchandise. Waterstones is a popular venue for important book launches. Over the years they have hosted signings for President Clinton, Hillary Clinton, Sir Paul McCartney and David Beckham, but Tony Blair was forced to cancel his appearance due to the threat of protests. |
