21: Sadlers Wells Theatre on Rosebery Avenue

Sadlers Wells TheatreThis is the eighth theatre to occupy the site since Richard Sadler built the first 'musick house' in 1863. In addition to his theatre entertainments, the businessman Sadler was also able to invite his customers to drink from the spring waters which appeared at this location, and which he claimed had medicinal properties, particularly 'effective against distempers to which females are liable'. The modern Sadlers Wells Theatre is recognised as one of the UK's foremost dance venues and opera production houses.
