30: Chinatown pagoda-style gates

Chinatown LondonShaftesbury Avenue is home to a number of Chinese-run businesses but the hub of chinatown is in Gerrard Street which runs parallel - a thriving pedestrianised street lined with dozens of restaurants and specialist shops. The area is marked by pagoda-style gates and the street signs are in both English and Chinese. There are colourful parades and fireworks here at the Chinese New Year which, because it follows the lunar calendar, can fall at any time from late January to mid February.
