Angel
from St. John Street |
Named after the coaching inn that stood on the spot where there is now a Co-op bank (with the dome) travellers from the North would rest here before the final part of their journey into the city which was particularly dangerous after dark with the threat from highwaymen. The Angel name lives on at a modern pub which is just next door to the original. It is run by the JD Wetherspoon Company, champions of real ale and long opening hours. |
