There are some bits of London which
have been unearthed in this area that are older than the Tower by about 800
years. The most substantial is the stone wall that is just behind the bus stop,
which is one of the fragments of a defensive wall that the Romans built around
their new town of Londinium. While you are here, head up to the little park
nearby (the high point) where, as well as a good view, there is also a sundial
with a neat history of London told in pictures around the circumference. |
