One of the streets going uphill to the
left is Southampton Street (Carphone Warehouse is on the corner) and the low
building at the top is the Covent Garden market hall, the main fruit and veg
market for London before being moved to Vauxhall in 1974. Fortunately, the area
was saved from demolition and the buildings were restored. The market stalls
here today cater mainly to tourists, selling antiques on Mondays and art and
crafts on other days. |
