The streets get narrower and darker as
they pass through the financial district. The lack of space and medieval road
layout has led to the offices of the banks and insurers getting ever taller over
the years. Shops here cater to the daytime workers with a plethora of coffee and
sandwich bars, while many of the pubs have early closing since, by evening, most
of the City population has gone home to the suburbs. As the bus approaches the
green spire of All Hallows by the Tower (London's oldest church) the vista opens
up again. |
